Today’s book: Spellbound by F.T. Lukens

I have been eyeing Lukens’s books for a while because their covers are STUNNING, and thanks to the absolute fun I had reading Spellbound, I will definitely pick up their others. I wasn’t bored once while reading, because the story moves quickly and is very action-packed.

Our two main characters, Rook (sunshine) and Sun (grump), are so endearing and I just want to have a big ol’ group hug with both of them. They both learn a lot throughout the course of the story and I loved how they both fought with, and for, each other. Throughout the book, Rook is almost solely guided on just wanting to belong somewhere, and that definitely tugged on my heartstrings. Plus, there is so much LGBTQ+ rep and we need so much more of that!

The magical world that Lukens has created here is so interesting and the magical mishaps people found themselves in were often hilarious. The way Rook categorizes the magical “issues” that people called into his job with was funny, as well as his quick and clever humor. Plus! The banter! With everyone! I adored Antonia (Rook’s boss) and honestly, I would love to see another book with these characters. I believe (and I could be wrong) that Lukens’s other books are standalones, but I could definitely see the continuation of Rook’s and Sun’s stories and further exploration of their world if another book was to be made. 🙂

I recommend if you enjoy YA, fantasy, romance, or all of the above. FYI–the spice level is very, very low. I wouldn’t even deem this book spicy. It is definitely sweet.
