Happy Monday Reader Friends! Not going to lie, I’m currently avoiding essay grading in order to write this. I want to feel guilty…but 7th-grade essays are rough. Also, I’m so tired when I get home that I’ve had no energy to work on fun hobbies! But, enough complaining. It’s a new year and I’m working on some fun stuff!
What I’m Reading:
I started a new book club! It’s called Defiant Damsels and the focus is historical romance that features badass women. Our January book is Alexandra Vasti’s Ne’er Duke Well, and so far it is delightful!
I love participating in the Read Christie yearly challenges, and this month’s book is Five Little Pigs. I’ve read it before, but I’ve caught on to more hints during this read-through than in the past! I highly recommend Hugh Fraser’s narration.
Books I hope to finish and/or start this week: Analeigh Sbrana’s Lore of the Wilds, Mimi Matthew’s The Lily of Ludgate Hill, and Violet Marsh’s Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man.
What I’m Watching:
We’ve started watching Ted Danson’s new Netflix show A Man on the Inside. It is funny, engaging, and has a lot of unexpected emotional depth. I’ve cried like four times already and we still have a couple of episodes to go.
I love this show so much! Stanley Tucci is brilliant and I’m hungry after each episode. Tucci is a great conversationalist and I love his passion for food, drinks, and culture.
What I’m Listening To:
Honestly, it’s just been Taylor, Beyonce, and whatever my Spotify Daylist happens to be at any given time.
What I’m Working On:
-Instead of writing my 2025 goals, I made them into a bingo board!! I got the idea from one of my friends and I love it. There are a lot of book-related tasks here, but each task is designed to bring me joy and fulfillment.
-I have a few book WIPs, and I think I’ve settled on one to focus on. Maybe. I just got another idea over the weekend, but ultimately, I will be writing a fantasy!
-Historical fiction novels are once again being slammed and slandered, and it’s annoying. This is in part what inspired me to start Defiant Damsels. I will also be working on a series of posts about historical romance, its important place in literature, and reviews!
